Unsure about how to become a licensed professional counselor candidate (LPCC) in Colorado? Here are the steps to simplify the process and make things easier for you! Consider saving all these websites and forms so you do not have to go searching for them.
These are the steps to become licensed within the state of Colorado.
Click on this website link https://dpo.colorado.gov/ProfessionalCounselor/Applications, go to the page where applications can be filled out, and begin the application process for an LPCC licensure
If you do not have a DORA account, you will be prompted to create an account. I encourage you to bookmark the landing page for your account for quick access.
The LPCC is a one-time registration that allows one to work towards their LPC for four years*
The LPCC application requires proof of graduation from a Master's program via a transcript or a document signed by your school stating intent to graduate https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzKoVwvexVATWFVfa1hZOG9fa2c/view?resourcekey=0-U1YaepaERRcUwEY7FLFnVA
Here is a checklist to help navigate obtaining post-degree hours and supervision https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzKoVwvexVATRHNKRjlITWtDcnc/view?resourcekey=0-PcgZzbf1YlCXmk0ddoQTew
This is the form needed to write down clinical and supervision hours. The sheet says 2000 hours, but the requirement is 1500 hours of direct clinical hours over two years with 100 hours of supervision https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mzW6h2ke95IJ00HGQW6E847MP5mtUZky/view
If one has not done so already, look up NCE test dates and start studying for the exam. The test score is valid for five years. https://www.nbcc.org/exams/nce
Tracking hours can be simple; consider using an Excel sheet that can calculate the running total of hours. Example below:
Date | Direct Hours | Indirect Hours | Supervision Hours | Group Supervision |
Oct 6th to 10th | 15 | 5 | 1 | 1 |
Oct 13th to 17th | 20 | 10 | 1 | 0 |
*Please check the website to ensure there have not been changes in regulations, laws, or rules. I appreciate feedback on whether the information is outdated and will try to keep this blog as updated as possible.
